—Gracious Generosity

Gracious generosity is one of the Nebraska Conference Six Signs of Discipleship. A dynamic and vibrant church is a giving church    a church where the congregation shares its talents and resources with others. Gracious and generous churches are involved with their communities and are outwardly focused. A vibrant and dynamic church is one where its members tithe or are working towards a tithe. Gracious generosity is a spiritual view of stewardship.

Henri J.M. Nouwen in his book "A Spirituality of Fundraising" says, "Fundraising and Ministry — From the perspective of the gospel, fundraising is not a response to a crisis. Fundraising is, first and foremost, a form of ministry. It is a way of announcing our vision and inviting other people into our mission. Vision and mission are so central to the life of God's people that without vision we perish and without mission we lose our way (Prov. 29:18, 2 Kings 21:1-9). Vision brings together needs and resources to meet those needs (Acts 9:1-19). Vision also shows us new directions and opportunities for our mission (Acts 16:9-10). Vision gives us courage to speak when me wight want to remain silent (Acts 18:9)."

There are many resources for stewardship. Some can be found on the General Board of Discipleship website. Special Sundays and other offerings are provided throughout the year to help focus the denomination on its specific commitments.

Additionally, The Advance offers an array of giving opportunities to help risk-taking mission and justice ministries located all across the globe. Nebraska Advances make it possible to make a difference right here in our own state.

Soon we will add resources for annual giving campaigns to the Website. We’ll also share stories from local churches.

With God, all things are possible.
