Stewardship

We sometimes use stewardship and gracious generosity interchangably in the Nebraska United Methodist Conference. Stewardship in its broadest sense includes how we care for our resources as well as how we care for things out of our pocketbooks.

The United Methodist Church is called a connectional church because it shares its resources across all levels of the denomination to improve the lives of many through mission and justice work. So not only do offering plate dollars pay for the pastor and maintain the church, but those dollars help alleviate hunger, create jobs and conribute mightily to helping transform the world to look more like God's kingdom here on earth. General agencies such as United Methodist Committee on Relief are often in the front lines when disaster strikes in far away places — places many have only seen on a world map. Far away places that often have major impact on the geographical and political balance of global relationships between regions, countries and world views.

Whether a congregation is meeting its Mission Share goals or is simply doing its best to be a witness to the work of Jesus Christ in the world today, there are substantial resources available to help local churches do stewardship ministry.

Some can be found on the General Board of Discipleship's website. Special Sundays and other offerings are provided throughout the year to help focus the denomination on its specific commitments. There are also many annual giving program available to churches. We will soon be offering links and reviews of some of those.

Additionally, The Advance offers an array of giving opportunities to help risk-taking mission and justice ministries located all across the globe. Nebraska Advances make it possible to make a difference right here in our own state.

If your congregation has a great stewardship story, please contact us at info@umcneb.org.

With God, all things are possible.
