The Common Table

One of the first things Bishop Ann Brookshire Sherer-Simpson did when she arrived in Nebraska was to hold a district-by-district series of listening sessions. Attendees of those listening sessions also completed a survey that was then aggregated with every other district's input.

What emerged was a desire on the part of Nebraska United Methodists for strong leadership at the local church level. From this work a discipleship planning group was named and a plan was authored. A Discipleship Plan was adopted during the 2006 Annual Conference Session and was followed by two years of Transition Team work leading up to the passing of The Common Table structure during the 2008 Annual Conference Session.

This Web section offers those historical documents and also houses the ongoing work of The Common Table and its Three Teams. Here you can find meeting agendas, meeting minutes and other updates regarding the work of The Common Table and Teams. The Teams represent the strategic initiatives of the Nebraska Conference — including Leadership Development, Congregational Development and Risk-taking Mission and Justice work.
