Commission on the Status and Role of Women
The mission of the Commission on Status and Role of Women is to monitor the status and role of all women in the total life of the Conference; initiate cooperation with United Methodist Women to achieve full participation of women in the decision-making process; help develop ways to inform and sensitize the leadership and the entire church membership on issues that affect women; promote the use of inclusive language; assist the local church in functioning as advocates for women and support selected organizations that advocate for women.
Goals and Objectives
- Monitor the leadership patterns of the local churches, publish the results in the "Nebraska Messesnger" and report the findings to Annual Conference.
- Honor a lay woman's leadership through awarding the Angie Newman award.
- Continue planning for the 50th anniversary in 2006 of the ordination of women in the Methodist tradition.
- Provide "Words That Hurt; Words That Heal" to all participants of Nebraska basic lay speaking courses, new Conference leadership of the United Methodist Women, United Methodist Men, new Cabinet members and new District Lay Leaders, Conference youth leadership, and others, as resources allow.
- Provide information and resources to local churches using the MESSENGER, the Conference web site, the coordinated mailing, and News Break..
- Encourage district representatives to provide updates on COSROW materials for district newsletters and district UMW newsletters..
- Support selected organizations that advocate for women using the guidelines of the Nebraska Annual Conference.
- Promote resources on gender issues for use at events for children and youth.
- Research gender equity patterns in appointment and compensation packages for the Nebraska Conference.
