Board of Christian Witness
The purpose of the Board of Christian Social Witness is to provide educational information, to develop programs of action, and to advocate for justice in our society. The Board works with and supports the work of Peace With Justice Ministries of Nebraska.Goals and Objectives
- Empower local churches to pursue their justice passions by providing mini-grants that follow the Social Principles. Raise consciousness for justice issues across the Conference through our Peace with Justice minister, and Peace with Justice intern, and encourage the use of General Board of Church and Society (GBCS) resource materials on the GBCS website at www.umc-GBCS.org.
- Advocate for societal justice by continuing the Peace with Justice Speech Contest; witnessing for our Social Principles before the state and federal legislative bodies; investing in social justice efforts such as Nebraskans for Peace, Nebraskans Against the Death Penalty; and supporting Interchurch Ministries of Nebraska's Joint Action Strategy Teams.
- Promote the denomination's Peace With Justice Sunday.
- Respond to the needs of crime victims, the incarcerated, and families o the incarcerated by:
- Working with Restorative Justice Ministry.
- Promoting the development of a Samaritan program to address the needs of the victims of all crimes.
