UMW Annual Meeting 2011

On Oct. 15, 2011, the Nebraska United Methodist Women participated in a Volunteer In Mission activity at Epworth Village in York, as part of their annual meeting. As there were 278 women in attendance, it was a busy and very productive morning, and a true example of Faith, Hope and Love in Action!

2011 District Laity Award winners

A lay person – or couple – from each district is selected each year and honored for special ministry in the church, community, workplace or world. The award is presented at the Nebraska United Methodist Annual Conference Session awards banquet. The 2011 banquet was held June 2.

The 2011 Annual Conference Session took place at Lincoln St. Mark's UMC, June 1-4.

2011 "The church has left the building" mission day

More than 70 people took part in the second annual "The church has left the building" day of mission May 31, in Lincoln. Lisa Maupin, Nebraska Annual Conference Volunteers in Mission coordinator, said, “Today we are having a day of service that we do in conjunction with Annual Conference. It’s a chance to head out into the community and be present with them in a really big way.” That “big way” included work at People’s City Mission, city parks, Capital Humane Society, the Lincoln Children’s Zoo, University of Nebraska and so much more.

Bishop Sherer-Simpson roast event/scholarship fundraiser

Saint Paul School of Theology held a roast event Friday, April 1, with Bishop Ann B. Sherer-Simpson as the "roastee." The evening was a fundraiser, with all money raised going to a Nebraska seminary scholarship established in her honor. The event raised $17,000, & attendees learned things about the Bishop such as the fact that this champion of women's rights was head cheerleader in high school & once dated an Elvis look-alike (no foolin'!)

Confirmation Day 2011

Saturday, March 5, marked an exciting day for the future of The United Methodist Church in Nebraska. Confirmands from across the state gathered in Lincoln for the annual Confirmation Day, hosted by Lincoln First UMC, the Nebraska Annual Conference, and Nebraska Wesleyan University (NWU). More than 130 people, both youth and adult leaders, were in attendance.

Members of the Nebraska-Kansas Episcopal Area Transition Team announced the team's recommendation that Kansas East, Kansas West and Nebraska become one conference.

Nigeria-Nebraska Partnership Orphanage

Established in 2005 through the Nigeria-Nebraska Partnership, the orphanage in Jalingo, Nigeria, is currently home to 48 children who have lost both of their parents due to various causes. The children not only live at the orphanage, they also receive their education there, as well as the love and spiritual nurturing that would otherwise be lacking in their lives.
