The Gateway District office will be closed on Friday, March 28. The Rev. Secundino Morales will be attending a Hispanic Workshop at Lexington First UMC, and district administrative assistant, Denise Wagner, will be attending the Laity Convocation at Kearney First Church.Feinstein Foundation matching grant program
I'd like to invite you to help us raise money and food for some of our local food pantries and hunger projects by participating in the Feinstein Foundation matching grant program. We know of three United Methodist-related programs participating in this match: The Big Garden, Pearl Pantry and Together Inc. Both monetary and food donations are included in this matching grant−food is valued at $1 an item or pound.
What happens is this: the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation splits $1 million between programs nationwide that raise money during March and April to fight hunger. Each group that participates receives at least $250 for participating. The main rule is this: we can only count money and food donations towards this grant if you note on the check or food donation that you are giving because of this matching grant, doing so helps the Feinstein Foundation track how successful their matching grant is at motivating people to donate towards hunger relief.
So if you were thinking about a food drive for Pearl or Together, or a special offering for the Big Garden, Together or Pearl, the time between now and April would be excellent. If your local food pantry would like to participate in this program, I would be happy to e-mail you the information so you can participate.
We appreciate your partnership with United Methodist Ministries as we serve our neighbors together.

Interchurch Ministries of Nebraska (IMN) endorses Maine Council of Churches peace resources
"Attached is an excellent resource developed by the Maine Council of Churches. Please share this with your clergy and congregations. You may also access it on the Maine council's Web site," said Marilyn Meecham, IMN executive director, in an e-mail to the Nebraska United Methodist Conference."The antagonism of the most anxious is proportionate to the niceness of the leader."−The Center for Pastoral Effectiveness of the Rockies
Named by most clergy who have attended as "the most valuable continuing education experience" they have ever had, the center was created to maintain ministers in ministry. Interested? Read on."The antagonism of the most anxious is proportionate to the niceness of the leader," (Edwin Friedman). And there you are as Clergy, paid to be nice, safe for your people to strike out at you. Yet the more you as a leader "adapt your function to the weakest members, the more you enable their dependency, encourage their happy ignorance, and reinforce their helplessness," (Peter Stienke). When your congregation's threshold for pain is low then its opportunity for changing is much less. But when the pain is high, so is the stress on you as pastor. How do you address this conundrum? That is what we address at the Center for Pastoral Effectiveness.
As you begin planning your continuing education for the coming year, you might want to consider The Center for Pastoral Effectiveness of the Rockies. The Center, now in its ninth year, has 290 clergy alumni from five different denominations in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska and Kansas.
Beginning July 21-23, 2008, the sixth series of the center for Nebraska will begin. It includes six, three-day retreats scheduled over 18 months.
For more information talk to your Nebraska Center Representative, Kelly Karges at kjkarges@hotmail.com or visit the Web site at http://pastoraleffectiveness.org. To register, e-mail the Rev. Bill Selby, center mentor, at integrity4u@comcast.net.
